Business Consultant/Interim General Manager
Engaged by a company with £3m turnover and 50 employees producing cider, wine and fruit juices supplying through local sales and national off licence groups.

Key Achievements:

  • Advised upon all technical and operational aspects (including purchasing and personnel).
  • Designed and developed new building and plant, including fermentation and packaging suite. Linked to government grant assistance. Total project cost £1.8m.
  • Developed Cornish Whisky - featured in "Cornwall Today" September 2003 and widely covered in national press and radio.


Business Consultant/Technical Director
Engaged by a manufacturer of chilled and frozen desserts and patisserie products supplying Waitrose, Safeway, ASDA, Whitbread Group, Brakes, Prêt a Manger, Gate Gourmet, Thornton's, Cadburys and Masterfoods employing 45 staff with £5m turnover.

Key Achievements:

  • Managed all technical, NPD, account management, logistics and engineering issues.
  • Handled all product launches (NPD to shelf), including account management, costing, specs, packaging design, scale up and pre-production trials.
  • Design and build of 1800m2 dedicated factory from greenfield site, includingfunding from 3i investment group.
  • Oversaw company relocation to new factory.
  • Developed branded chilled desserts with Cadbury, Masterfoods and Thornton's.
  • Managed all engineering design and operation of maintenance department.
  • Designed quality management system to achieve BRC accreditation (EFSIS). Gained factory approval by all customers including Cadbury and Masterfoods.

Production Director
Employed by a company with £10m turnover and 30 employees who process essentials oils and plant extracts supplying to worldwide breweries, perfumery houses, spice companies and health companies.

Key Achievements:

  • Managed all operational issues and quality system maintenance (ISO9002). Included operation of supercritical and liquid carbon dioxide solvent extraction plant - only such plant in western Europe.

Numerous roles within a major brewing company:
1993 to 1996 - Operations Manager (Keg, Cask & Tanker Fleet)
1991 to 1993 - Canning & Bottling Technical Manager
1989 to 1991 - Quality Control Manager
1987 to 1989 - Research Chemist

Key Achievements:

  • Managed all departments to achieve output of over 1 million pints per day. Unionised (T&G and AEEU) production departments.
  • Developed ISO9002 QMS for canning and bottling.
  • Managed all technical aspects of running packaging lines at over 1000cpm and bottles at 600bpm.
  • Part of team responsible for development of draught in a can widget system for the Brewery, and breaking Guinness & Whitbread patents.
  • Operated cask line growing at over 100% p.a. Largest cask washer in the world.
  • Undertook range of training courses, including "Team development & change management", leading to lead trainer for whole of site.

Completed overseas projects (incl. India and Africa) for Tropical Development and Research Institute.
